VALENTINE'S DAY
Valentine's Day... You either love it or hate it. Nothing makes people feel more obligated (short of Christmas) to declare feelings they may not "yet" have or will never have delivered in rigid saccharine sweetness by society's norms, thus confusing both themselves about how they really feel and the other person. Or they have deep feelings for the other person but they're message is never really delivered because it's constrained by chocolate and red roses. We often wonder how many blooming romances are shot to hell because of the obligatory pressures put on them by Valentine's Day? Men dread it because they never know if they have done enough and women dread because their not sure if enough's been done. Gay or lesbian couples seem (though we wouldn't say absolutely) to sort through it far easier because there isn't the layer of cultural message goo that the traditional man/woman relationship has to travel through. Gee, do we sound cynical? Okay, on the other hand, if you and your honey can get past that goo, take society's implied message about it in stride, get creative, it can be a fabulous experience to create deep meaning.... together. Either that or at least have a really good time with it in your own way.
